Granite house with land and ruins, Vale de Ferro, Oliveira do Hospital, Coimbra, Oliveira do Hospital
What is it?
This is a largely granite house that has been refurbished in recent years into a sympathetic and comfortable house. The living area is on the first floor and is accessed via the original granite staircase. This floor consists of a large kitchen/living room with an additional separate sitting area with fireplace (formerly the kitchen), a bathroom with shower, a separate toilet and a bedroom. The upstairs living floor has an area of approximately 73 m². Behind the house, on the level of the living room, is a paved terrace and the garden. The attic (approximately 100 m²) can be reached via both an internal and an external staircase. The attic is now a large open space with headroom and can get a destination according ones desires. There are two storage rooms under the house. One is still furnished as an old wine cellar with wooden wine barrels and the other is storage for equipment. There is a paved patio in front of the house.
What about the facilities?
During the renovation, the roof was renewed and the windows were replaced by aluminium windows with double glazing. Heating is via a wood burning stove in the living room. Water is obtained through the water source on the premises, and electricity is connected.
Any outside space?
The lot includes 1300 m² of land that consists of a number of terraces. Various beautiful old olive trees grow there. There is also a small ruin of approximately 36 m² with an old bread oven still in its place.
The house is in the valley of the Mondego river. There is a wide view over the hills. The house is habitable and also offers possibilities to involve more space in the living area (for a handy handyman).
Where is it?
The house is on the edge of the hamlet of Vale de Ferro. The accessibility is pretty good. The last 1.6 km are a well-maintained sandy path. Vale de Ferro has a few beautifully restored granite houses and an art gallery with a café area.
